Ho Chi Minh City Pushes for Early Partial Opening of Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway to Ease Traffic Congestion

Ho Chi Minh City authorities have formally requested the Ministry of Construction to allow partial traffic flow on the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway starting March 30, citing growing congestion on National Highway 51 as a pressing urban challenge.

The proposal comes as traffic bottlenecks along National Highway 51 have become increasingly severe, prompting city officials to seek an urgent interim solution. By opening a portion of the new expressway ahead of its full completion, authorities hope to redirect a significant volume of vehicles and provide immediate relief to daily commuters and freight transporters.

The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway is considered a critical infrastructure project connecting Ho Chi Minh City to the southeastern province of Ba Ria - Vung Tau. Once fully operational, the route is expected to dramatically reduce travel times and support economic development across the region.

City planners stress that a partial opening would serve as a practical stopgap measure while construction on remaining sections continues. Officials are awaiting a formal response from the Ministry of Construction as the proposed March 30 target date approaches.
